Volunteers at the Warming Center help to ensure our guests have a safe and welcoming environment to access services, meet with housing counselors, and decompress. You will hear some of the most inspiring and heartwarming stories while helping to keep operations running smoothly!
During this shift, you will have the opportunity to fulfill any of multiple roles available during our opening operations. There are 4 stations that rotate throughout the first few hours of opening.
- Check in - Welcome guests as they come in for the first time during the night, record their names & assign them a bed.
- Laundry- Stationed at our laundry nook, washing and drying guest and facility laundry, and opening lockers and the storage room for guests.
- Pantry- Distribute food to adequately nourish our guests as they come in and get ready to go to bed.
- Floating- Jumping in wherever is needed, primarily distributing food and hygiene items from behind the desk, and opening lockers and the storage room.
When you arrive, ring the doorbell located next to the front door. Staff will welcome you into the facility and provide you with an orientation. Come prepared to laugh, cry, and listen!
