During this shift you will be charged with overseeing the kitchen, laundry and donations. These areas provide our guests with the necessary tools they need to regain some normalcy in this difficult time in our lives.

Family Entrance, during this shift you have the opportunity to be a bright face to welcome guests and their families to Homeward Point for the night. As one of the first faces our guests see, it is very important that we remain a beacon of safety and support during what is surely a stressful and hard time. We appreciate your willingness to bring warmth to our organization through this role of welcoming guests and their families.

Main Entrance, during this shift you have the opportunity to be a bright face to welcome guests into Homeward Point for the night. As one of the first faces our guests see, it is very important that we remain a beacon of safety and support during what is surely a stressful and hard time. We appreciate your willingness to bring warmth to our organization through this role of welcoming guests.

Check in Assistance

     Record guests names and welcome guests as they come in for the first time during the night

During this shift, the facility will (hopefully) be fairly quiet by the time you get in. Guests will have followed their night routines and found their way to bed, for the most part, and this provides critical downtime to complete tasks that we do not have the time to do during opening and closing operations. Cleaning and organizing things is a big part of this shift, and gives the opportunity to quietly get stuff done that is often pushed aside during our busier hours.

Duties that might be expected from this role include:

Helping get our customers to their bunks and lockers. Very involved with our guests. 

During this shift, you will have the opportunity to fulfill any of multiple roles available during our opening operations. There are 4 stations that rotate throughout the first few hours of opening.

Bunk Assignment: You will assign guests to specific bunks based on where they feel most comfortable staying for the night, using a handy map of the facility to assist you. 

Laundry: You will be stationed at our laundry nook, washing and drying guest and facility laundry, and opening lookers and the storage rooms for folks.

Pantry: You get to distribute food to adequately nourish our guests as they come in and get ready to go to bed.

Floating: Jumping in wherever is needed, primarily distributing food and hygiene items from behind the desk, and opening lockers and the storage room.

Duties that might be excepted from this role include:

This volunteer shift is a great opportunity for anyone looking into doing a couple of hours of volunteering early in the morning before work or school. During these hours, the facility is generally relatively quiet, giving folks the opportunity to do deep cleaning and organizing to prepare the facility for the busy morning hours before we close for the day.

Between 7am and 8am the facility will get especially busy, as folks prepare to head out for their days. You will likely find yourself spending a lot of time opening lockers and distributing hygiene products and food as people go about their morning routines.

Duties that might be expected from this role include:

This volunteer shift is a great opportunity for anyone looking for a quiet and independent shift to get started in your volunteering journey. During this time, both the day center and night center are closed so you will be tasked with cleaning areas that guests are usually using. This includes laundry, kitchen, bunks, bathrooms, common spaces etc. We appreciate your willingness to keep our facility as clean as can be throughout the day and night.

Duties that might be excepted from this role include:

Our Day Services are open for drop-in services from 9 am - 12 pm and by appointment only from 1 pm - 4 pm. Drop-in recovery based services include peer support, groups and service navigation.

While that time allows for recovery groups and one-on-one case management, our customers also require a facility to meet their needs during the day and during our shelter services at night. This facility readiness volunteer opportunity would allow the volunteer to prepare our facility for Drop-in and Shelter services which helps pro9mote dignity, safety, and support for our customers.
