Every weekday morning we operate four separate food rescue routes in order to bring in just over 1,000,000 pounds of food rescue donations every year from local grocery stores and businesses. 

We are always looking to add new volunteer drivers into the mix. In order to drive for us, you must have a valid drivers license, a clean driving record, and be able to pass a driver history check. You must also be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. By filling out a response to this need, you are letting us know that you are interested in driving. When we have availability, we can schedule you for a ride along to begin your training.

or below 130% of the federal poverty threshold (for example: $1,883 for a household of one
and $2,555 for a household of two).  Each eligible senior is provided with extra
groceries each month including staple food items such as canned fruit and
vegetables, grains, dairy products, proteins, cereal, and juice. We utilize 30 different
volunteer delivery routes to get all this food to our clients.

Drivers must be at least 18 years old and complete a DMV and background check in order to volunteer. Due to the cost of these checks, and the importance of developing relationships with the delivery clients, a 6-month minimum commitment is required in this position. 

Each client’s delivery weighs approximately 28 lbs.

Once you have submitted the form, you will be emailed directions on how to schedule your community service shifts.

Types of community service hours may include: school hours, university conduct hours, court mandated hours. Volunteer shifts are typically 3-4 hours long. 

Charges related to an act of violence or sexual misconduct are prohibited for serving hours with the Food Bank.  Every shift must be scheduled in advance. No walk-ins. You must have more than 10 business days to complete your service. If you miss a scheduled shift without notifying us, you will be unable to finish your service with us. We may discontinue the offer of service hours at any time if applicant does not meet our standards of conduct, work ethic, and timeliness. If you are a minor, we require a guardian to accompany you on your first shift.  When you complete your hours, we require 5 business days’ notice to send verification. You are responsible for the completion of your mandated hours. GVFB employees are not responsible for scheduling your hours to completion. If the scheduling is not available for you to complete your hours at the GVFB, we suggest that you schedule additional hours elsewhere within the HRDC; at the Warming Center, Drop In Center, Fork & Spoon, and other programs.

Types of community service hours may include: school hours, university conduct hours, court mandated hours. Volunteer shifts are typically 3-4 hours long. 

Charges related to an act of violence or sexual misconduct are prohibited for serving hours with the Food Bank.  Every shift must be scheduled in advance. No walk-ins. You must have more than 10 business days to complete your service. If you miss a scheduled shift without notifying us, you will be unable to finish your service with us. We may discontinue the offer of service hours at any time if applicant does not meet our standards of conduct, work ethic, and timeliness. If you are a minor, we require a guardian to accompany you on your first shift.  When you complete your hours, we require 5 business days’ notice to send verification. You are responsible for the completion of your mandated hours. GVFB employees are not responsible for scheduling your hours to completion. If the scheduling is not available for you to complete your hours at the GVFB, we suggest that you schedule additional hours elsewhere within the HRDC; at the Warming Center, Drop In Center, Fork & Spoon, and other programs.
